Frankfort residents will watch their undefeated high school football team attempt to extend a school record of 36 consecutive victories when the Falcons host Independence at 7 p.m. Friday. The matchup marks the second straight week the Class AA No. 1 Falcons face a top-tier opponent as they aim for a third consecutive state championship.
Frankfort enters the game with an 8-0 record and needs two more wins to secure another perfect regular season. The Falcons have not allowed fewer than 31 points in any game this year, a defensive flexibility that will be tested by the No. 6 Patriots. Independence arrives with a 5-2 record and has won its last three contests despite playing seven of its nine scheduled games on the road.
The Falcons rely on a run-heavy Wing-T offense that features six ball carriers with at least 165 rushing yards. Braydn Tyler leads the group with 586 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. Quarterback Austin Twigg contributed to the ground game recently with a 62-yard touchdown run. An injury to Cole Shanholtz in last week’s win at Wahama has reduced depth in the backfield, making it essential for Frankfort to distribute carries among its available players.
Independence counters with quarterback Brock Green, who can utilize the versatility of tailback Paxton Myers and wideouts KJ Viars and Carson Treadway. Green’s ability to spread the offensive load forces Frankfort to defend multiple threats simultaneously. The Patriots’ balanced attack is designed to prevent the Falcons from focusing exclusively on stopping the run.
Special teams play is expected to be a decisive factor in field position. Frankfort needs to avoid giving Independence a short field, as the Patriots have shown they can capitalize on favorable starting positions. The Patriots’ defense has been stout in state play, allowing only 56 points in five matchups and recording two shutouts.
Frankfort coach Kevin Whiteman has emphasized the need for physicality at the point of attack for his team to succeed. Independence enters the game with the advantage of additional rest, having last played on October 17. The Patriots must maintain their defensive intensity to challenge the Falcons’ dominant rushing attack and secure a road victory.
