Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan arrived in Kyiv on Monday, October 26, to conduct a working visit. He was accompanied by three cabinet ministers: Vladimir Bolea, who oversees infrastructure and regional development, Anatolie Nosatîi, the defense minister, and Dorin Junghietu, the energy minister.
The Moldovan government stated that the delegation will hold meetings with Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Ruslan Stefanchuk, the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. Officials say the leaders will focus on strengthening bilateral ties, expanding economic trade, and addressing regional security concerns. A central topic of the discussions is the path both nations are taking toward joining the European Union.
Tofan and Koretskyi will also attend the Kyiv International Economic Forum together. The event focuses on investment opportunities and the development of economic cooperation between the two countries.
This visit follows recent diplomatic moves in the energy sector. On October 14, Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal met with Tofan to discuss shared energy challenges, winter preparations, and bilateral cooperation. Two days earlier, on October 12, Tofan indicated that Moldova was considering purchasing natural gas from Ukraine. He said he would address this potential deal during his current trip to Kyiv.
The high-level talks occur while Moldova’s President Maia Sandu maintains that the country is prepared to accept a new wave of refugees from Ukraine. She noted that this readiness applies if the severe humanitarian situation forces more people to leave their homes.
