Four children were left home alone in Kissimmee while their mother worked in Las Vegas, a situation that ended with an arrest and a hospitalization. Irene Miller, 50, faces four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm following the incident.

On October 18, Miller departed for a work trip to Las Vegas. She told deputies she planned to return on October 23. During her absence, a babysitter from Tampa collected the children for school and checked on them after hours, but the arrangement did not include overnight supervision at the family home.

The situation escalated on October 21. A 9-year-old boy was at home with his siblings, aged 14, 12, and 11. A dumbbell fell on his head. An older sibling called 911. Fire rescue transported the boy to the hospital, where he was treated and later discharged.

Deputies from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the residence and found the four children unsupervised. The responding officer contacted Miller by phone. She confirmed she was in Las Vegas and would be back in two days. Authorities then reached the children’s father, who agreed to take the kids to his home.

Detectives met Miller at the airport on October 23 when she landed from Las Vegas. She was booked into the Orange County jail.

The boy has returned home following his hospital stay. The case remains open with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
